"Nine to Five" may have been a hit for Dolly Parton, but for most of us, it's a fantasy from long ago and no longer true of our working life. Longer hours and e-mail make it hard to switch off and balancing the demands on your time is a challenge, particularly if you have family commitments. But having a meaningful job doesn't have to mean sacrificing your personal life and it is possible to achieve the work life balance that you would really want for yourself.
I first discovered coaching when I was looking to escape the corporate world after my work life balance tipped the Richter scale at probably around 9.5. I had an idea for a business but no idea what to do with it or rather more importantly how to make the time to get creative to work on it. I had so much "stuff" it all seemed quite hopeless.
"Get a coach" someone said. I remember the immediate response was to think where would I find the time to do that! What do I need one of them for? Don't people get a coach to get them into action? I was already in action, infact I was in action up to my ears.
However I kind of realised that I wasn't getting the results from the action that I wanted. I needed different action and less of it. So I got a coach!
So what did coaching do for me? I learnt that I actually did have choice in my own life, could prioritise my time really easily when I focused on the outcomes that were important to me and could even say "no" without guilt. I realised that the right sort of work was a huge source of wellbeing and was so impressed I now do coaching for people just like me, who want more energy, more fun and more order and balance in their lives.
If you would like to experience coaching then get in touch and book a sample session with me - its free and it's a great opportunity for you to find out what being coached "feels" like and how it works in practice - no obligations - just an opportunity to experience it rather than read about it.
