I’m tired of talking about women in leadership.
Because if we’d fixed the system, I wouldn’t have to.

Let’s talk about the facts first.

Across FTSE 350 companies:
📊 Only 8% of CEOs are women
📊 Just 1 in 3 leadership roles are held by women
📊 Women are still significantly underrepresented in profit & loss roles - the ones that lead to the top

(Source: Fawcett Society, 2024)

And yet, time and time again, studies show:

✔️ Women score higher in leadership competency reviews

✔️ Teams led by women report higher engagement and retention

✔️ Companies with diverse leadership outperform financially

(Source: McKinsey & Co, Women in the Workplace report)

So why are men still favoured?

Because leadership is still being measured through outdated lenses:

➤ Confidence over competence
➤ Visibility over value
➤ Linear progression over real-life complexity

But here’s where it gets interesting.

Women are rising.

The stats are improving.

But we need to ask: Are we doing it the right way?

We might be fixing the numbers.

But are we fixing deep rooted leadership bias?

📌 Are women expected to show up stronger, smarter, more qualified just to get the same role?

📌 Are equity policies changing hearts, or just ticking boxes?

📌 Are we mentoring women to lead - or still managing them into burnout?

And what about the men?

📌 Are they still being rewarded for confidence that would be labelled arrogance in a woman?

📌 Are they being chosen because they “seem ready” - or because they remind someone of themselves?

If you want to be part of the change, here's what you need to do right now;

➔ Redefine leadership: move from charisma to competence

➔ Audit progression paths. Where are women capped?

➔ Stop “fixing women”. Start fixing bias

➔ Train hiring managers on perception vs performance
