Worried that deadlines won’t be met.
Constant checking in with the team to ensure things are progressing.
Deeply care about not being a good leader, perhaps too deeply.
The thoughts keep coming and it’s draining.
You question whether you are doing a good enough job.
You question your intensity.
You question your own purpose.
These aren’t just unnecessary stress which reflect in both one’s personal and professional life, often seen in high-performing professionals. It’s a relational pattern, acquired from early childhood.
The need to over-deliver, to be liked, to avoid conflict, or constantly seek reassurance isn’t a weakness. It’s often the coping strategy of someone who learned early on that their worth had to be earned… over and over again.
But here’s the truth.
Being a great leader doesn’t require you to sacrifice your well-being.
You can hold authority and still feel safe.
You can trust your team without micro-managing.
You can stop proving and start leading with calm, confident presence.
That shift begins when you stop outsourcing your value to others and start building it from the inside.
Here’s where to begin.
1.Notice the triggers.
Is it silence after you send a message? A skipped thank-you? A team member needing space? Learn what sparks the self-doubt.
2.Regulate, then respond.
Your nervous system needs to feel safe before your leadership can be sustainable. Slow down. Breathe. Let yourself respond, not react. There is always a split second of some realisation before one acts, so use it to pause, step back instead of react.
I work with individuals, managers and professionals ready to unlearn these deeply wired patterns, not to become someone else, but to lead from a place that feels steady, clear, and authentic.
You don’t have to carry it all to prove you’re worthy.
You already are.
