Exciting news for employers! 4 new laws confirmed for 2024!
1️⃣ Carer's Leave Act 2023: Caregivers can take 5 days off annually, unpaid, to support the elderly, disabled, or those with long-term illnesses/injuries. Implementation: April 2024.
2️⃣ Neonatal Care (Leave and Pay) Act 2023: Parents with babies needing hospital care within 28 days of birth will receive additional maternity/paternity leave. Each week in hospital grants an extra week of leave, up to 12 weeks. Implementation: October 2024.
3️⃣ Protection from Redundancy (Pregnancy and Family Leave) Act 2023: Pregnant employees and those returning from parental leave will be offered suitable alternative roles during redundancies. Failure to prioritize them may lead to unfair dismissal and discrimination claims. Implementation: April 2024 or sooner.
4️⃣ Employment (Allocation of Tips) Act 2023: Employers must pass tips to workers and establish fair allocation policies. Statutory guidelines will be provided, and workers can claim if tips are not allocated fairly, with up to £5000 compensation. Implementation: April 2024.
What does this mean for employers?
- New policies for carer's leave and neonatal leave.
- Review of related policies to incorporate neonatal leave.
- Update redundancy policies to include extended protection.
- Mandatory tips policy for hospitality employers.
