You Don't Have to Have All the Answers

You Don't Have to Have All the Answers

One of the biggest misconceptions about management is that the moment you become responsible for other people, you're suddenly expected to know exactly what to do.

  • How do you handle underperformance?
  • How do you manage someone you've worked alongside for years?
  • How do you lead a team through change when you're still trying to make sense of it yourself?

Over more than twenty years working with managers, teams and organisations, I've learnt that the best leaders aren't the ones with all the answers.

They're the ones who are willing to pause, ask good questions and seek advice before making important people decisions.

That's one of the reasons I founded Cherry Tree Grove Consultancy.

Not to create another consultancy full of complicated frameworks and corporate language, but to provide practical advice for people leading people.

🌿Because people challenges are rarely solved by rushing.
🌿Sometimes they need a conversation.
🌿Sometimes they need a fresh perspective.
🌿Sometimes they need someone who's been there before to help untangle what's really happening beneath the surface.

Throughout my career I've worked across luxury retail, healthcare, transport and logistics, education and local government. Although the sectors have changed, one thing has remained remarkably consistent: people are trying to do the right thing, but often don't have someone they trust to talk things through with.

The conversations I have are rarely about policy. They're about confidence and knowing how to approach a difficult conversation, rebuild trust after change or support a new manager who's suddenly responsible for a team.

Those moments matter because they're the moments that shape culture.

🌸One conversation can improve performance.
🌸One decision can rebuild confidence.
🌸One honest discussion can transform a working relationship.

At Cherry Tree Grove, we believe the strongest organisations are built one conversation, one decision and one relationship at a time.

If there's one message I'd leave with anyone responsible for leading people, it's this:

You don't have to have all the answers. You just need to know where to turn when you need to think something through.
