David Raya has experienced an upswing since joining Arsenal on a season-long loan from Brentford goalkeeper Sam Johnstone; since signing, he has started five league matches compared to just one by Aaron Ramsdale.
Arsenal employees have taken notice of these events and expressed surprise, but there may be more to the story than meets the eye.
Neville: It’s getting hot for Raya
Former Manchester United full-back Gary Neville has provoked strong outrage from fellow pundit Karl Henry after criticising Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya, believing the Spaniard to be an unstable presence responsible for Mykhaylo Mudryk's second-half strike during their 2-2 draw with Chelsea on Saturday. Neville believes Raya to be an anxious character responsible for Mykhaylo Mudryk's second half goal that resulted in Mykhaylo Mudryk scoring.
Raya made an initial loan move from Brentford this summer, in anticipation of making a permanent transfer next year. Since his arrival, he has become Mikel Arteta's preferred goalkeeper over Aaron Ramsdale.
However, his performance against City left many fans concerned. The former Brentford man was caught out by Julian Alvarez's deflected clearance, leading to Mudryk lobbing him for their opening goal at home and prompting Gary Neville's commentary team on Sky Sports to refer to Ramsdale as a "nervous wreck." However, this did not sit well with Ramsdale, who believes Neville has an agenda and wants Ramsdale back in the team XI.
Redknapp: Arteta has complicated situa
David Raya may be under pressure following an error-riddled performance against Chelsea on Saturday. Former Gunners star Jamie Redknapp claims Mikel Arteta has further complicated matters by entering to compete against Aaron Ramsdale as part of their goalkeeping competition.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has received overwhelming support from Manchester United fans during a disappointing start to the season, particularly Phil Neville who has staunchly supported him whenever given an opportunity.
Neville also defended both of his sons - Harvey and Romeo Beckham, Inter Miami owner David Beckham's son - against accusations of nepotism following their use in Inter Miami's 6-0 friendly loss against Barcelona on Tuesday evening. Neville maintains that both youngsters have earned their places on the first team by working hard. "Both have earned the right to play and this match represents an opportunity for them both to showcase what they can do."
Ramsdale: It’s unlikely
The Gunners are unlikely to make many changes to the back four that defended against Crystal Palace in their opener, with Aaron Ramsdale likely keeping his place between the sticks while Thomas Partey and Granit Xhaka likely keeping theirs as central defensive duos.
Jurrien Timber may miss this match after suffering a knee injury against Liverpool, with Leandro Trossard or Kai Havertz likely filling in as right-back alongside Ben White in that right back spot. Additionally, Bukayo Saka may make his first appearance following a COVID-19 recovery period in this game.
Even after starting unbeaten, north Londoners still sit four points behind Manchester City with only three league matches remaining this season. Any significant progress made toward closing that gap will be unlikely given their defeat in their local derby clash on April 6th.

Raya: It’s getting hot for Raya
Death in Paradise returned to television screens this week, providing fans with another gripping chapter in the doomsday prepper's tale and further exploring Detective Neville Parker and newcomer Sophie's blossoming romance while solving a mysterious case in Saint Marie.
David Raya's performance proved the source of much contention during Sunday's Premier League clash between Arsenal and Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Following several costly errors which allowed Mykhailo Mudryk to score twice for Chelsea from outside his penalty area, Raya found himself under close scrutiny as his errors enabled Mykhailo Mudryk to lob him and open up two goals advantage for Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
Redknapp believes Raya may be starting to feel the heat since unseating Aaron Ramsdale for Arsenal's No 1 shirt, claiming on commentary on Mail Sport's It's All Kicking Off podcast that two goalkeepers competing for one shirt won't work.
