The HSE published a document in 2018 quoting a Labour Force Survey which concluded that 6.6 million days were lost due to work-related musculoskeletal disorders in 2017/18. Whilst much of this was related to manual handling, keyboard work was estimated to be the third most common cause. This can be alleviated by correct workstation set up. The cost of not ensuring you and your staff are sitting comfortably is not only measured in time off, but loss of productivity. The best way to ensure that you and your staff are correctly sat at their workstation is with a DSE Assessment from an appropriately qualified and experienced assessor. However the following tips will help you to sit a little more comfortably.
Make sure your screen is at eye level
Your keyboard in front of you about 6 inches from the edge of your desk
Your mouse close by
Regularly used things are in easy reach
Relax! If you let your body relax your bottom will be against the seat back and your shoulders against the back rest, if it is adjusted correctly
Feet on the floor
Lift your hips, make sure your hips are higher than your knees
