Online learning or e-learning is one of the paramount innovations of the last two decades. With the creation of online learning platforms, the access to education has become extremely easy. Even many educators share their knowledge at no cost using these platforms. Although the charm of the online industry has fascinated the world, the online education sector still struggles to engage the students. Considering the comparative study of the traditional education system and online learning system, it is found that the students’ engagement is higher in the former. Check out the following strategies on how to increase students’ engagement in online learning.

Know your students

The concept of these virtual classrooms vacates no room for personal interaction. However, if the instructor conducts lectures of one or two hours with no humour or personal interaction, then students will be wrapped in boredom. When the educator or the online instructor makes little effort to know his students and shares his learning experiences then he can build a bond with the class. Building relationships can be useful in improving the online engagement of students.

Learning module must get timely updation

To keep the interest intact, the content should be relevant. If students find that the content is irrelevant and holds no further significance, students tend to lose their interest. To retain the learners, instructors must stay updated with changing trends, technologies, researches, policies and current affairs. Hence, timely updation of the course content should be done as per the scenario.

Easily approachable to students

Just after the online class finishes, the instructor says bye for the day, leaving students puzzled. Do you think such kind of teachers can retain students for long? Well… the answer is big NO.  Unless the teacher is available to take queries of students, the online class is futile. Teachers are expected to be more approachable and patient. They should facilitate the students to ask queries of previous lessons through personal messages and repeat lessons if many students ask for. Friendly gestures comfort the students and make them interested in classes.

Try new delivery techniques

When the human mind is being trained with novel things, its drifting increases. This issue of poor engagement is already high in traditional classrooms. How more will it be in case of online setup of learning? As the students seek for surprise elements so engagement becomes more difficult. For engaging his class, the instructor has to rack up his brain and showcase varied ways of delivering the content.

Communicate clearly

Communication is a vital element in increasing the students’ engagement in online classes. Teachers must take care of their tone, expression and body language while taking online lectures. Before beginning with the lectures, teachers must check up all the devices and internet connection to avoid any interruption. Sometimes, technical issues can break the rhythm of lecture and make everyone irritated.

Timely assessment and Feedback

Instructors should design the learning material which includes weekly assessments. Online instructors should keep a track of their performance by conducting weekly tests. Weekly assessments should be backed by feedback. Without feedback, students will be unable to improve themselves. Make sure that your words must motivate them even if they secure average marks. When the students understand the importance of weekly assessments, their participation will be high. This is a great technique to increase the engagement of learners.

Summary

Online learning has emerged as a boon to the education system. In order to take this style of learning to the next level, engagement is needed.  Any educational platform, which desires to see changes in student engagement rate should follow these tactics. In online learning, instructors provide assignments to the students which they can’t complete due to a hectic schedule. To provide online assignment help to students, academic writers are available.
