Let’s face it, COVID continues to hit us hard. Many people are left in the land of ‘Furlough-Limbo’ (FLimbo’) with uncertain times ahead. Businesses are streamlining their teams, some closing their doors permanently and others scrambling to see how they can make the best of the situation we, humanity, have found ourselves in.
During this period many people, myself included, have reflected on life and the potential for the future. Is this a natural time to make a career change? What are other industries and businesses doing differently and can I be a part of this?
Unsure if there would be a job at the end of the gratefully accepted furlough scheme, and with uncertainty around what that would look like, I peered into the world from inside my 8 year bubble of IT Sales & Account Management.
My initial findings following on from a conversation with my Recruitment Consultant was that many, but not all, businesses were putting their recruitment on the back burner.
One company that was actively recruiting had adapted their business from exhibition stand design and build to COVID safety solutions (that’s screens, sanitisers and signage to you me!). After a COVID safe interview (naturally!) there was an obvious shared enthusiasm between us in helping businesses return to work - and here I am, 4 weeks into my new role with White Space Creative.
My decision to jump on board was steered very much by the infectious desire of the team here to be diverse and brave. In a time where it simply could have been easy to close the shutters and lock up, awaiting news of the Exhibition Industry to awake from its slumber, they regrouped.
It has been refreshing to see a company who has looked up and created a successful solution in a challenging period. To be able to help other business’ get back to work, through networking with neighbouring business and a lot of hard work, (whilst a lot of people were at home binge watching their 85th Netflix series - me included) has given me the motivation and inspiration to also help others feel safe in the workplace!
