Business Owner Wellbeing

Business Owner Wellbeing

Wellbeing is a massive passion of mine and after supporting many Managers whilst in the HR Corporate world for 25 years with this, I now transfer that learning and experience to supporting business owners.

Here’s what I focus on:

Make sleep a priority.  Sleep is a basic need for anyone - it helps with:

  • Improved concentration
  • Enhanced problem-solving ability
  • Better memory
  • Less anxiety and depression
  • Boosted immune system
  • Improved social interaction and emotional function
  • Better physical form and more efficient exercise
  • Decrease in other health risks

How much sleep do you get each evening?  Not enough, what can you do to improve this?

Make a work schedule and stick to it - It’s all too easy as the owner of a business to work all the hours available in the day - as a one off it might be needed - but regularly, it’s not good for us long term.   Make sure you have clear boundaries of being contactable and what you do.  Your wellbeing depends on it - you can't be everything and everywhere for everyone!

Have a circle of 5 - you might be lucky and have more, but really look at who is in your closet circle to support you - no questions, will always be truthful, will always be there to support you.  Do you have yours?

Today at lunchtime or why you are waiting for the kettle to boil - stop and take a deep breath.  Why?  Because you deserve it - because you need it.  Really, in the grand scheme of things, what will it take away from your day?  What it can give to your day is calmed nerves, reduced stress and anxiety and improved attention span.  Give it a go, your wellbeing will thank you for it.

Short, sharp bursts can be helpful for our productivity - that in turn can help with our sense of achievement.  The Pomodoro Technique is good for this:

  •  Pick a task
  • Set yourself 25 minutes - user a timer if that helps
  • Work until your time is up/timer goes off
  • Have a 5 minute break

Every 4th Pomodoro, have a longer break - 15-30 minutes.  Give it a go and see how you get on.

Slow down, to speed up.  It makes sense when I think of it - after every break, I always come back bigger and better.  What do you think?

Eat well & exercise regularly.  Easier said than done isn't it when you are the boss!

Have a look at this today and try to make small changes if you are not happy with it - every little helps.

I don’t always get it right but the more I build up good daily habits, the better I am at sticking to them and benefitting from them also.  What can you do today to look after your wellbeing?
