Is SEO Right for All Businesses?

Is SEO Right for All Businesses?

Nearly 70% of online experiences start with a search engine, with Google holding a massive 92% of the market share.

Despite these convincing statistics, the question as to whether or not SEO is right for your business is still valid. Weighing up its pros and cons is necessary when planning a marketing strategy.

Here are some questions that businesses should consider before deciding on whether SEO is right for them.

  1. Do you need leads now? SEO is an awareness channel meaning it works really well at increasing brand awareness. If you want leads overnight, perhaps PPC is a better option. However, note that PPC isn’t a long term strategy and isn’t a channel that builds trust with a target audience like SEO does. Although SEO takes time to work, most B2B marketers see it as the best source of lead generation in the long term.
  2. Do Your Customers Use Google? Ask your customers which online channels they use and direct marketing resources there first. If Google isn’t a source of revenue, then SEO won’t drive value for your business.
  3. Is Your Business an Early Stage Startup? If you are still trying to get your business off the ground, then I would argue that SEO may not be the best use of marketing budget. Something that delivers a return faster, such as paid ads, may be a better use of money.
  4. Do you have the patience to allow SEO to work? SEO is a long term strategy. Do you or other internal stakeholders have the patience to back an SEO strategy until it gains traction?

The reason SEO works is because people buy from companies they trust. When a business keep appearing in Search when a potential cusotmer is looking for answers, that constant presence builds trust.

When an SEO strategy is given the time and investment needed for it to succeed, trust amongst target customers is what results.

And trust makes it more likely that customers will buy.
