Let me introduce you to 1CSS and our outlook on moving forward in the industry
1st Centurion Security Services is a start up which will aim at a unique perspective towards the security industry. All too often through out my career as an employee I have seen an attitude that has caused a myriad of problems for both company and client, that attitude is the bums on seats or boots on the ground. As a manager I have had to deal with officers who are clearly not fit for the job and as such the strain it creates makes the job harder. So it’s my opinion that if an officer is needed for a construction site then a person that has the presence to handle an entrance and not have a person who just simply there to earn a pound. I have seen and experienced officers become absolutely petrified as carrying out duties in an estate environment whereas they would better suit a reception. During my time at Kings Cross a manager had the gumption to include me the interviewing process as they knew I would not sugar coat the job. Out of 9 interviewees only 2 agreed to continue once they found out that the average estate security officers walks about 15 miles per shift. When this was not done officers would turn up realise what is entailed and just leave. But if you were to flip the coin and put an estate officer in a building again this has caused problems as the officers is sitting there bouncing their knees in frustration. My solution is simple as it should of been in the first place, the employment description needs to be completely transparent which should consist of the following 1.Rate of pay ALWAYS displayed on the ad
Nature of the business ie if its retail, construction or corporate.
2.What are the requirements ie 12 hours on their feet, is it outside in-the elements. 3.What skills they need ie HSE, first aid and in many areas behavioural detection.
4.obstacles they may face ie language barriers or even the site is full of students who like to party and create mayhem. So in short if the job advert were to include P. Pay rate, especially in an industry that epitomises the saying that “ if you pay peanuts you will get Monkeys”
E. Environment of the work A. Actual description of the site, is it a hotel or an event R. Rank of officer needed, this can be used to give an idea who is needed. I believe that this way an officer can look at the advert and know before any other action towards application whether or not they are suitable for the role, this in turn should and will increase the success rate of the officer and company. So in short it will be the mission of 1st Centurion Security Services to make sure that the right officer fits the role, the site and the client.
