Dealing with loss

Dealing with loss

We, with other in the higher mammal group, are aware of loss.

How we deal with this is a personal reaction to the situation and how we recover from that loss will hopefully make us stronger and kinder individuals.

But when we are in the situation, this is can be furthest from our minds.

Loss comes in many ways, the death of a loved one, a job or career, moving house or school, divorce - so many different ways that we can feel separated from society.

In the year that "Four weddings and a Funeral" made W.H. Auden's poem about loss a country's favourite, we as a family encountered four funerals and a wedding. It was not a good year, but we survived and grew stronger. In this past year we have seen family and friends leave us, sickness take health from others, jobs have been lost and life has been difficult.

Does that stop us having a hopeful attitude towards tomorrow? No, but maybe for a while we will be reserved?

I am by nature a glass full person - half full is not enough!

As individuals and as a family we will survive and grow and we will take this into every area of our lives.

I was reflecting that this is not a particularly business focused post and I make no apology for that. We bring ourselves to our businesses and workplaces and in these days there are many people around us who are dealing with loss and may need a person to quietly walk with them as they rebuild themselves to this new reality.

Call to action - Look around you and if you see someone dealing with loss, be a friend and let them know you have noticed and will be there for them.
