Technology has become an integral part of our lives. It is embedded so deeply that rooting it out would be like taking out those painful wisdom teeth embedded in the bone without anesthesia. You can probably imagine what that would be like, painful is putting it lightly.
Everything we do and everything we are is somehow connected to technology. It has made us reach milestones that we never thought possible in our personal lives and in our professional lives.
Talking about the latter, those of us who run businesses understand the importance of technology. Just take a look at the past, a couple of decades ago. The proportion of business owners compared to service class was way off. The former being miniscule in comparison with the latter. Now, that is not the case.
Businesses and business owners are blooming today. People have actually left their well-paying secure jobs to start on their own. This is because they know it’s the smarter and more lucrative choice.
How many business owners were there in your circle in the past decade? And how many of them are there now? For me, I know more than a dozen people operating flourishing businesses. And another dozen who plan to start soon, including me.
Have you ever wondered what the reason could be?
Why weren’t people appreciative of the business world before?
How come the 2010s turned out to be the decade of exponential business growth?
The answer to all of these questions is technology and the way it has widened the means we have. A business owner, even a small one, has everything at his disposal that he could desire. If not, a click of a mouse can make him get to what he desires. That’s the power of technology.
And that is what we are going to be discussing today. I mentioned that the means have grown, now we’ll understand how.
Businesses Have Expanded Their Reach
The primary way technology has helped in business growth is through expanding their reach. Businesses today are universal. I’ll tell you how through an example.
I saw a skincare line on Instagram a couple of months ago. It seemed really good with the most positive reviews from famous celebrities and people like me. So, obviously I wanted to give it a go. The skincare business was Canadian, that’s where it dispatched all the orders from.
For people from Canada and even the US, it was okay to order because the line was delivering to all the states in these two countries. However, I was from India, which was a long way from Canada. So, I could not get my hands on the products, despite how badly I may have wanted them.
I, then, did the only thing I could think of. I DMed the business owner and like me she must have gotten messages from so many other people. I say this because she just announced worldwide shipping.
This is a story that is pretty common today. People can easily find any business and actually contact them, and more times than not they get a response. This has made businesses reach a much wider audience. And at the heart of this universal ability is technology and the internet to be specific.
It is because of the internet that a digital marketing company can help a client in Australia boost its marketing game. And technology is to be thanked.
Businesses Have Enhanced Their Productivity
Because of technology, there are so many machines and devices available. And these have helped in enhancing the productivity of a business and its employees too.
Have you heard of Rolls Royce? It’s a major car manufacturer in the world, providing luxury on wheels. Its uniqueness lies in the fact that many parts of its production cycle are done manually, like sewing the leather of the wheel. Its workers do it by hand, since that kind of craftsmanship cannot be achieved through machines.
You must be wondering as to why I have mentioned Rolls Royce, as I haven’t really related it to technology. The reason is to highlight that every car that Rolls Royce makes takes much longer than an average car assembly would.
Why?
Because of machines. And be it Toyota or Honda or even BMW, you do get your money's worth, although they are Rolls Royce. Well, nobody can be that.
So, businesses who are inundated with orders that cannot be fulfilled using manual labour, technology comes to aid. Look at any of the leading manufacturers and you'll find technology placed well within the manufacturing process ,making it smoother and faster.
Businesses Have Become Less Erroneous
To err is to be human. It is a fairly common idiom that applies to all humans. At one point or another in our lives, we have made mistakes.
All of us have done and we should be ashamed of it. It is a part of being human. Therefore, using technology for these situations makes for less errors in business. Running an article on Grammarly for grammatical errors is better than doing a half hearted job yourself. Would you not agree?
There are umpteen software and technological devices available to execute simple tasks that do not necessitate the keen human eye. You would always need a writer to write the article, but you might not need him or her to publish it. Technology will do it for you.
Conclusion
In the end, all I would like to say is that businesses have become flexible because of technology. There are things that weren’t even a possibility a year ago, but today they’ve become our reality. Take remote working for example. Nobody thought it could be done, but it has been a constant part of our lives for over a year. For many, there is no going back to the old ways. That is the power of technology.
