The worktop vanity units are trendy bathroom furniture that is popular throughout the UK. The main reason for their popularity is that they offer highly practical designs with an aesthetically pleasing look. Especially in the bathrooms where space is an issue, these can help save you space without compromising on the style. Due to their sleek look, these easily become the centrepiece of every bathroom. However, it is not always possible and economical to hire a plumber to fit these vanity units whenever you plan to install these units. The installation or fitting of vanities differs significantly in terms of complexity. For example, install a wall-hung vanity is considerably complicated in comparison to the freestanding or other types of vanities.

In this article, we are going to explore how you can install a worktop sink vanity without hiring a plumber.

What are Worktop Vanity Units?

Every bathroom needs storage bathroom furniture. When we combine it with the sink, it creates a sense of style and looks perfect as a contemporary addition to the bathroom. Its functionality increases many folds. However, these come in various sizes and suites different to perfectly meet the needs of everyone. Although you have simple cabinets available that provide ample storage capacity but adding a worktop sink increases its functionality and aesthetics. That makes it a highly popular choice for everyone.

Process Of Fitting New Worktop Vanity Units

Here we discuss step by step process to fit a new worktop vanity unit

Step -1 Removal of Old Worktop Vanity Unit or Sink

It is obvious that you will need to remove an older sink to fix a new one. You must remember that it may take some time to correctly fit everything. Therefore, you should not try to rush things, or it may cause damage to your sink vanity unit or pipework. Before starting any such task, it is important to stop the water supply from the main supply line. It will not be possible to handle it while water is running. The removal of the sink will mainly be based on its type. Here we discuss a traditional or pedestal sink. The method of other washbasins will vary slightly.

  • You will first need to remove the sealant. It is important to use any sharp tool like a knife, razor, or blade. There are many other things like dryers that may help soften it up.
  • There is also a solution by the name of sealant remover available in the market. You will need to first apply it to the surface. It will dissolve the sealant, making it easier for you to remove it completely.

After the sealant is removed, you should carefully start removing the sink.

Step-2 Position worktop vanity units

Once the older worktop vanity units are removed, you must clean the space for any residues. Remove any screws if these were inside the holes. Now you can start working on the next step, which is to position the new sink vanity unit.

First, you should measure the vanity unit for the exact dimension, so you know how to position it. You can also use a lead pencil to mark exactly the position of the vanity unit where you want to fit it. Most of the vanity sink unit cabinets have an open back, so there will be no problem in fixing through pipes. However, in some cases, you may need to make holes through it so you can fit pipes easily.

Step-3 Fixing the Vanity Sink Unit.

Once you position the vanity sink unit, you can start fixing it. It will require you to align it in accordance with earlier marking on the wall. It will ensure that the vanity is in a straight position and not having any issues. Now connect and line up the pipe in the supply line of the water and waste pipes. When everything matches up, then it’s time to begin tightening it up. For better or study fitting, you must check the wall studs and then screws them up into the place. Otherwise, you may also drill them up with a drilling machine as well. It is important that you ensure securely fitting each and every corner.

Step-4 Final Fittings and Fixing.

At the last stage, you will need to fix the fit on the top sink over the vanity unit. Your vanity is already in place, and now it's time to complete the installation. Depending on the type of sink, you can place it in the top position. Then attach the faucets or taps, including waste. It will be quicker and a lot easier than installing a vanity unit.
