During our education we learn and then we are tested. But during the rest of our lives we are tested and that's how we learn.
Now apply this to interviews when you are in job search mode.
The interview is a test, but how do you learn from it?
Ideally you ask for objective feedback from your interviewer!
Hands up if you have ever received such feedback after an interview!
Now let me count the hands that are up. No, I don't see any!
"No hands up" is precisely why it is vitally important that you debrief yourself formally after each interview.
This should be done as soon after the interview as is practicable: your powers of recall will diminish with time.
Talk to your mentor about the interview: the aim is to assess whether you came across as well as you are capable of doing and thereby to learn from any mistakes you may have made.
If you don't self debrief you are likely, unwittingly, to repeat your mistakes at the next interview: you need to learn to treat each interview as a learning experience.
