The average full-time worker spends approxiamately 1,760 hours a year at work (with 4 weeks off for hols)- and that excludes any commuting. We spend more waking time with our co-workers than we spend with our spouses, eat more lunches and see more day-light with them than anyone else.
Bearing that in mind it is not surprising that our colleagues may bear witness to our highs and our lows. Conflicts at work, pressure and stress are all contributing factors to the the rise of well-being at work programmes being introduced.
However, could this be a passing trend? or are we seeing some new roots taking hold into a better future for workers and employees, given the rise in mental health concerns, worker absenteeism, and longterm sickness.
Absenteeism is costing around £29 Billion per year in the UK. 1 in 4 people in the UK will experience a mental health issue in their lifetimes and 1 in 6 people in England suffer from anxiety or depression - according to mind.org.
With these stats to crunch on, it's clear something needs to get done - and luckily things are changing.
