Summary

I am a vastly experienced Business Development and Sales Manager with a great track record of finding new opportunities and converting them into profitable sales. I create relationships based on trust, integrity and empathy. Listening and understanding customer requirements and acting as the voice of the customer has often been the key to my success. I am equally effective working independently or as part of a team. As a Sales Manager I have led and developed sales teams to the consistent achievement of sales targets. I have worked in a very diverse range of industries, mostly in the automotive, agricultural and off highway equipment sectors and have successfully developed business in all of them. I have high energy levels which (so I have been told recently) can increase the overall energy levels of a team.

I am now interested in working with companies on a part time or project basis who are looking to increase their sales but possibly have not identified a need for a permanent sales executive/manager.

    Andrew Britton BD Services Ltd
  • Productiv Ltd

    Senior Business Development Manager
    21 - 100 Employees 2014 - 2017

Productiv is a start up company that was originally created to assist technology developers (TD's) with innovative new products (typically rotating machinery for future automotive applications) overcome the "valley of death" by providing engineering support and a robust process management approach which would take products from, typically, a running prototype to a product which was capable of going into volume manufacture. This was the journey from Technology Readiness Level 4 to Level 8. Alongside Productiv there is The Proving Factory which was created to provide space for the TD's to produce pre production and low volume production.

My role was to develop relationships with potential OEM customers for these innovative technologies which would eventually lead to them introducing them on future generations of electric and hybrid vehicles. This involved deep dives into the structure of the OEMs to find the key decision makers and also the people in the organisations who had the problems that these technologies could solve.
To achieve this I had to develop an understanding of the technology; how it worked, what its performance criteria were, its features advantages and benefits, to the point where I could present them credibly to senior level engineering personnel within the OEMs
I also had the responsibility of developing business with the OEMs for engineering services and also introducing them to the concept of manufacturing product in The Proving Factory.
During my time at Productiv I obtained the first approved supplier status for the provision of engineering services and the purchase order that followed. I also negotiated an agreement for an OEM to set up a secure workshop in The Proving Factory.

  • Millbrook Proving Ground

    Business Development Manager
    101 - 500 Employees 2006 - 2012

Millbrook is the UK's leading independent provider of vehicle test and validation services and systems to customers in the automotive, transport, tyre, petrochemical and defence industries.

I was recruited to lead the business development of the crash laboratory and the component test laboratory reporting o the Head of Sales.
Working with the Head of Sales we secured a single source contract from a major OEM for full vehicle crash testing which had previously been dual sourced
I secured a programme of safety testing for an American EV manufacturer
I won significant new business for the component test laboratory in the "shake and bake" facilities. Cutomers were typically from the Automotive Interior Tier 1 supply base, examples being IAC, Draxlmaier and Faurecia
I conducted track tours for many customers which involved explaining the technical features of the many elements of the tracks whilst driving at high speed
I represented Millbrook on UK Government sponsored missions to India and China, reporting back the significant opportunities I unearthed at meetings with Chery, Changan, First Auto Works, Great Wall, Mahindra and Mahindra and Tata
Represented Millbrook at the SMMT International Business Group
