Summary
About
I am a Senior Lecturer in Tourism & Marketing and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. I hold a first-class degree BA (Hons) in Tourism Management (Sheffield Hallam University); a MA in Tourism & Social Responsibility (Exter University), a Postgraduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education from the University of Cape Town (UCT), and a PhD in Marketing (UCT). My doctoral study was completed in November 2004 in the area of crime-safety and tourism consumer decision-making.
My key areas of expertise are teaching the following subjects: research methods, consumer behaviour, destination marketing, principles of marketing, and digital marketing. I lead on a number of undergraduate modules and ensure that teaching is underpinned by appropriate research and scholarly activity. I also supervise undergraduate research projects and Master’s Dissertations. With well-developed communication and interpersonal skills as well as having lived in several countries, I am effective when working with a diverse group of students from different cultural backgrounds.
My research focuses on tourism-safety. Recently, I had a book published George, R. (2021). Marketing Tourism and Hospitality: Concepts and Cases, London: Palgrave Macmillan. The book focuses on the marketing of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in tourism, particularly in an emerging market context.
