Summary

Helical piles are a very long established, tried, tested and cost-effective foundation solution in multiple situations, ( supporting ring beams and reinforced rafts  or steel columns, modular and timber framed buildings commonly) offering many benefits over other available options:

Speed - piles for a typical house for example, can be provided complete and ready for use often in 2-3 days, up to 20 piles per day can be installed by one machine

No waiting – once a pile is installed it is immediately ready to accept its designed load with no requirement for curing or off-site testing

Guaranteed load bearing capacity – the installation machine provides real time bearing capacity as the pile is installed to its designed depth. Compression and tension tests can be undertaken on-site on sample piles where required

Minimal site disturbance – piles installed by a special 2 tonne rubber tracked remote controlled machine. Eliminates labour and machinery and the processes of excavation, stockpiling and disposal to landfill, and import of concrete and backfill materials

Reduced carbon footprint – approximately 75% lower embedded carbon than concrete foundations, eliminates carbon release caused by excavation of upper strata of soil, and will assist any project meet its carbon targets

No vibration or undermining – piles are quietly screwed into the ground without causing damage to proximate structures as there is neither vibration nor undermining by excavation

Removable – for temporary projects the piles can be later unscrewed and removed if required
Root zones – acceptable for use within tree root zones thereby opening up site areas where excavation is not permitted

Weather – installation can be undertaken in all weathers

Guaranteed price – an on-site “probe” test can be carried out prior to project commencement, which determines the pile installation depth and helix diameter required for a specified load, and a guaranteed price then quoted

Full engineering service provided for nationwide installations by TMPs inhouse engineering department

Cathodic protection – extend the life of the pile as long as required
