For me, being a wealth manager is far more than delivering the highest level of annualised return for a given level of risk; my role is to support private clients, businesses and their families to develop a financial life plan which includes structuring a health and lifestyle aspect - there is little point in being the richest person in the cemetery!
Wealth management therefore begins with protecting your health, salary and assets before moving towards further wealth creation including developing a million-pound pension pot (which for many people is within reach with careful long-term planning); and then finally moving towards the efficient transfer of wealth to the next generation and beyond.
I have been involved in some very sizeable and complex institutional transactions, however I firmly believe that everybody in the UK should have access to wealth management expertise – therefore I support clients who are just stepping into the financial world right through to large businesses and the ultra-wealthy.
